Restaurant Review: DIG Delray
My husband and I went to DIG for my birthday dinner. I love anything local and organic so DIG, which stands for “Doing It Green” is my kind of place.
We began with the seared sea scallop appetizer, I did not take a picture but it was two giant sea scallops on a bed of spinach with roasted tomatoes on the side. After discovering my newfound love for scallops, I knew I had to try restaurant prepared scallops again and these were cooked perfectly!
They offer grass-fed beef on the menu so I was so excited to try a grass-fed filet mignon for the first time. We always enjoy grass-fed burgers at home, so a filet was in order for this special night out. The filet was served upon a bed of sautéed spinach, sun-dried tomato, toasted hazelnuts, and garbanzo beans with roasted garlic(!!) on top. It was such a beautiful presentation!
I really enjoyed the dish, the filet was quite tender as expected, but it left something to be desired in terms of flavor. I did not detect any seasoning on the meat; a little course ground sea salt and black pepper would have served this cut of meat well. The bites I ate with roasted garlic smashed onto the meat were quite flavorful. I enjoyed the spinach and garbanzo beans the most out of the mixed sauté, a little too many sun-dried tomatoes for me but for anyone who loves them, they would have been in heaven.
My husband ordered the NY Strip loin, accompanied by horseradish mashed potatoes, charred radicchio, and bacon “Chasseur”. He said the flavor of the meat was really good, but it was quite chewy. I tried a piece and concurred, a little too chewy for my liking. It was cooked medium rare as ordered, this just happened to be a tough piece of meat. The horseradish mashed potatoes had a strong flavor so stick with regular mash if you aren’t a huge horseradish fan. The presentation on this dish was quite nice, but overall not something he would order again.
We had dessert and coffee waiting at home, so we skipped dessert at DIG, but the waitress kindly brought two pieces of cookie bar for us to sample. Heman enjoyed them both so yes they were very good!
DIG also has a solid organic wine and small beer selection along with skinny cocktails, many under 100 calories. My husband ordered the Red Truck Zinfandel and I enjoyed a few sips, it was quite good. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired. A better effort is made in the bar area, but the dining room is very light and airy like that of a breakfast and lunch establishment, not for a night on the town.
I commend DIG for bringing local and organic food to Delray Beach. They grow some of their produce right outside of the restaurant, which you can view from the dining room. How’s that for local? There are other dishes on the menu I’d like to try, I have a feeling they excel in seafood dishes…
