Food samples will be straight from the recipe guide in my 28-day program. Olive Taste also has high quality olive oils loaded with healthy fats that your body needs to absorb nutrients, vital for healthy organs and to give you glowing skin and silky hair. You’ll want to use Lori’s olive oil for many of the dips and dressings in my 28-day program to make them extra delicious and gourmet. Dean from Fit Food Express will also have delicious fresh juice and food samples. Fit Food is right around the corner from SloBody so you can zip over after a great SloBody workout if you’re short on time. Dean offers high quality healthy foods on the quick.

You will also learn about my new partnership with SloBody to bring you a whole new experience of exercise and clean eating. I have created a new 28-day Clean Eating Program to work alongside their new program SloBody Kick Start. Janine and Kirk are the exercise experts and I am the clean eating expert!

Easy to make and keeps well in your fridge for a couple days. So you can cook once and eat several times. This program is customizable, you can add your choice of protein if you are vegetarian or eat meat. I make recommendations for both in the program guide. Everything is very flexible.

We are also super excited to open up a special Facebook group just for you to be able to ask questions and get support in a private group setting. I’m also giving each participant a free 30-min power session over the phone with me for 1:1 support anytime during the 28-day program. You will also get weekly check in e-mails delivered right to your inbox.

My practice, as a Health Coach and in life is based upon the idea that there is no one way of eating for everyone – we are all individuals. I grew up eating based on the food pyramid, like most people, but it didn’t work for me. I never felt that great, but after changing my diet, based on the foods that worked for my body – everything changed. I learned more about this way of eating in my education at Integrative Nutrition. And many of my clients have benefited from eating based on their own bio-individual needs.

Another important aspect to overall health is the concept of Primary Foods, which describes everything around food that affects our well-being including exercise, career, creativity, spirituality and relationships. Encompassing healthy foods and healthy lifestyle changes is a whole person approach to a healthy and balanced life. In my own life having a family, busy life, high stress corporate career, and my own business – clean eating is crucial for me on a daily basis to not only get through my day but feel great in the process.

Hope to see you there!

You may have heard the saying, “Abs are made in the kitchen!” While there’s a lot of truth in those words, it’s so important to workout most days of the week and finding the right workouts for your body is key.

Enter, SloBody – an infusion of traditional yoga with functional training. The SLO in SloBody stands for “Strengthen, Lengthen, and Open Your Body”. This class delivers just that! I took a free class during their soft opening week on Saturday, June 8 and loved it! I went in thinking I signed up for a yoga class but was pleasantly surprised by the class led by owners Kirk Slobody and Janine Tiede. While many of the poses were true to yoga, the transition of poses were executed in a more functional training method. I really enjoyed the workout and felt I did indeed strengthen, lengthen, and open tight areas of my body. This workout is great for seasoned athletes or anyone looking to start a new exercise program at any age.

Raising Healthy Kids: Creative Ways to Encourage Physical Fitness

I have a wonderful guest post from Vitacost.com to share with you! These days kids are in the spotlight when it comes to keeping our families healthy and making sure they get enough physical activity. Here are some great tips for you!

By: +Elizabeth Lotts writer for Vitacost.com

When it comes to getting your kids physically fit, think outside of the sandbox. It’s been ingrained in us that our children need to play ball games: football, basketball, baseball, volleyball…These are all great activities for budding jocks, but not everyone’s a sports fan. No sweat. There’s an activity for every personality.

Here is a guide for finding the best fit for keeping your child fit.

1. Does your child like playing music (i.e. beating your pots and pans with kitchen spoons)?

Look into activities that let your child be expressive, such as:

§ Hip-hop dance lessons – it’s like Zumba for kids!

§ Cheerleading/ tumbling/gymnastics – great strength and confidence-builders

2. Does your child have a hard time focusing?

Developing a mind-body-balance can help kids understand how to respect their bodies while cultivating important mental skills, too. They’ll stretch their bodies’ limits with these:

§ Kid yoga – holding each pose takes mental and physical strength

§ Martial arts – very disciplined and requires full attention

3. Do you notice your child holding back in big groups?

Help your little one break out of her shell by finding activities that don’t require teams, like:

§ Kid-tailored triathlon training – extremely rewarding when she realizes she can do not only one sport, but three!

§ Horseback riding – expensive, yes, but the value of learning how to care for an animal will go far, instilling self-confidence, responsibility and independence

4. Is your child very scientific and inquisitive?

Play up their love for discovery with outdoor adventures. Some ideas to consider:

§ Spelunking – a.k.a. cave exploration that can dig up a slew of history lessons

§ Scavenger hunts – create your own clue-driven obstacle course in the backyard or a local park

Some of these activities overlap and can work for several different personalities. The idea is not to limit your kids’ imagination or skill-set. Join in the fun and games to lead by example; you’ll get some exercise, and your kids will benefit from your support. For total health and well-being, let your kids have fun and enjoy whatever activity they choose.

Bicycle Crunch To Tone Your Abs

Ab toning workouts are great for firming up your core and helping your posture. The bicycle crunch is a great basic way to tone abs. Place a mat on the floor or you can use a towel.

1. Lay on the floor, then press the small of your back into the floor.

2. Place your hands behind your head and raise your knees up.

3. Alternate touching your opposite knee to elbow as shown in the video. It’s important to tighten your abs and exhale when you crunch and inhale on the release. Be sure to keep breathing the whole time.

Aim for 3 sets of 20. If you feel any pain or soreness in your back, stop and stretch. The bridge pose is a great stretch or cat and cow yoga pose to loosen your back muscles.

What are your favorite ways to tone your abs?

Youfit Now Open At Boca Town Center

There’s a new gym in town and it’s called, Youfit! The concept is that everyone ‘fits in’, this is a no judgment zone and they try to make working out as approachable and fun as possible. Let’s start with walking thru the door and being warmly welcomed. We took a gym tour and learned so much, there is more than meets the eye. Their second concept besides fitness for You is, ‘Green is our color’. Green happens to be my favorite color too! What they mean is they are committed to the health of our environment just as much as they are committed to helping people get more healthy, happy, lean, and inspired. The floors are made of recycled tires, they recycle all plastic bottles from the club, they use high-powered yet efficient hand dryers that work very well instead of paper towels in the locker rooms, plus energy efficient lighting just to name a few.

The Boca location at Town Center is above Blue Martini and Pinon Grill, you park on the second floor of the parking garage and walk over to Youfit. They have a sign on the opposite side of the parking garage that faces the Terrace at Boca Town Center, we mistakenly thought the entrance was next to The Gap. There were signs to guide us to the right place as we walked up to The Gap, so even if you head the wrong direction, you will be able to find it.

The gym has a ton of cardio machines placed around the perimeter of its 17,000 sq. ft. space. Each machine has its own 15” screen for watching t.v. and includes an apple adapter so you can plug in your ipod, shuffle or other apple device. Cardio machines include treadmills, arc trainer (a cross between an elliptical and a stair climber), and stationary bikes. There is a stretch area called Youstretch which includes mats, exercise balls, bosu balls, assorted medicine balls, along with incline ab benches. The middle of the gym is filled with weight machines and they have a great color code system: purple for upper body and green for lower body. Each machine also has water bottle holder, a nice feature. Members are expected to bring a towel and must wipe off the equipment after using. There are also paper towels and cleaning spray to use for disinfecting equipment available.

If you want to use a workout machine but aren’t quite sure how to make adjustments or use it properly, you can ask any of the staff at Youfit, they are all exercise 101 certified. All staff are trained and will help you out for free. They do not have exercise classes at this gym, that’s part of how they keep the cost down. However, they do have a 30-minute Youfit Express Circuit training area that is led by a Youfit Coach 6 days a week. You can also use this training area any time on your own. There are instructions on the wall and there is a red light/green light to indicate when you are to switch from one exercise to the next. This is great if you want to have a great workout in 30 minutes but aren’t sure where to start.

The back left quadrant of the gym is the free weight area. There is a big rack of dumbbells along with weight plates, smith machines, benches, bars, dip machine, curling station, cable machine. This location does not have squat racks, there are only smith machines since the facility is above Blue Martini and Pinon Grill. They don’t want the sounds of weights dropping to entertain the diners below.

If you want to work with a personal trainer, they have Youfit Coaches on staff.

Gym hours are Monday – Thursday 5am – Midnight; Friday 5am – 10pm; Saturday – Sunday 8am – 8pm.
